Senior Process Safety Engineer; Energy

Our client, a respected name in the Energy industry, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their operational team in Bloemfontein, Free State . This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all operational facilities, mitigating risks associated with energy production and distribution. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of process safety management (PSM) principles, hazard analysis techniques, and regulatory compliance within the energy sector.

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA.
• Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and implementation of corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to operational personnel.
• Perform safety audits and inspections of facilities and equipment.
• Manage mechanical integrity programs for critical process equipment.
• Advise on safety aspects during the design, construction, and modification of facilities.
• Promote and cultivate a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the energy or chemical processing industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with relevant safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, COMAH).
• Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills.
• Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Experience working in the Bloemfontein, Free State region or similar industrial environments is a plus.
