Senior Mining Engineer - Operations & Energy Integration

Our client, a major mining operator, is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to oversee operational excellence and energy integration at their site near Welkom . This role is critical for optimizing mining operations while strategically integrating energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources to reduce operational costs and environmental impact. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mine planning, operations management, and a keen understanding of energy systems within the mining context.

• Develop and implement optimized mine plans focusing on operational efficiency and energy consumption reduction.
• Oversee daily mining operations, ensuring safety, productivity, and adherence to production targets.
• Identify opportunities for integrating renewable energy sources (solar, wind) and energy storage solutions into mine operations.
• Analyze energy usage patterns and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost savings.
• Manage the implementation of new technologies related to energy management and operational optimization.
• Conduct feasibility studies for energy-related projects within the mining context.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and energy regulations.
• Supervise and mentor junior mining engineers and operational staff.
• Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., engineering, maintenance, finance) and external energy providers.
• Prepare technical reports, budgets, and project proposals related to operations and energy initiatives.

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in mining operations and mine planning.
• Proven experience or strong understanding of energy management systems and renewable energy integration in industrial settings.
• Knowledge of mine design software and operational simulation tools.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in data analysis.
• Experience with project management methodologies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Must be willing to work on-site in the Welkom area, Free State .
