Senior Road Design Engineer

Our client, a highly respected civil engineering consultancy, is looking for an experienced Senior Road Design Engineer to join their team in Bloemfontein. This role is central to the planning, design, and implementation of key road infrastructure projects that are vital for regional development. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality road designs, traffic management plans, and geometric layouts, working on projects ranging from urban streets to rural highways.

• Lead the design of road infrastructure projects, including geometric design, pavement design, and drainage design.
• Conduct site investigations, traffic studies, and feasibility assessments.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) and road design software for project deliverables.
• Ensure designs comply with South African road design standards and relevant legislation.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
• Collaborate with clients, government authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
• Review and approve design calculations and construction drawings.

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in transportation or road engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) is mandatory.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in road design, including significant project management responsibilities.
• Proven proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar road design software.
• Strong knowledge of pavement design principles, materials, and construction methods.
• Experience with South African road authorities and standards (e.g., SANRAL, provincial departments) is essential.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and manage client expectations.
• Familiarity with projects in the Bloemfontein and Free State region is advantageous.
