About the Role

• Conduct field and laboratory research to identify and characterize plant pathogens affecting major agricultural crops.
• Develop and implement effective disease management strategies, including biological, chemical, and cultural control methods.
• Design and execute experiments to evaluate crop resistance to diseases and assess the efficacy of new control agents.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to disease incidence, severity, and spread.
• Collaborate with breeders, agronomists, and farmers to disseminate research findings and provide technical guidance.
• Supervise junior research staff and manage research projects from inception to completion in Bloemfontein .

• Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Agronomy, or a related plant science discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in plant disease research, with a focus on identifying and managing field crop diseases.
• Proven ability to conduct rigorous scientific research, analyze data, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience with molecular diagnostic techniques for plant pathogens is desirable.
• Strong understanding of plant physiology, soil science, and agricultural practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
