Health and Safety Officer - Metalliferous Mining

Our client is seeking a proactive and vigilant Health and Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment for their metalliferous mining operations near Bloemfontein . This crucial role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs to prevent accidents and injuries. You will work closely with site management and employees to foster a strong safety culture, conduct regular inspections, and ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, safeguarding the well-being of all personnel on site and contributing to the operational integrity of the mine.

• Develop and implement site-specific health and safety management systems and procedures.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver health and safety training programs to employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards for mining .
• Maintain safety records, statistics, and assist in the preparation of safety reports.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.

• National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Health and Safety role, preferable within the mining industry .
• Registration as a Safety Professional with a recognized professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Strong knowledge of OHS Act and Mine Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Excellent communication, auditing, and incident investigation skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and influence behavioral change.
