Our client, a prominent financial services institution, is seeking an accomplished Senior Backend Software Engineer specializing in Java to enhance their core banking systems team in Bloemfontein
. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services that power critical financial operations. You will work within an agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions that meet stringent industry standards. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of enterprise-level Java development, microservices architecture, and database technologies. This is an on-site position, essential for fostering close collaboration and ensuring the secure handling of sensitive data within our Bloemfontein offices.

• Design, develop, and implement robust, scalable, and efficient backend services using Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
• Build and maintain microservices architectures for new and existing applications.
• Develop and optimize database schemas and queries for relational databases (e.g., Oracle , PostgreSQL ).
• Integrate backend services with third-party applications and APIs.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, adhering to industry best practices.
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
• Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver high-quality software.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technology selection decisions.
• Ensure the performance, security, and reliability of backend systems.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development, with a strong emphasis on Java .
• Extensive experience with the Spring framework, particularly Spring Boot.
• Proficiency in designing and working with relational databases (e.g., Oracle , PostgreSQL , MySQL).
• Experience in building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with messaging queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) is a plus.
• Understanding of microservices architecture principles and design patterns.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
