The Engine Test & Calibration Engineer will be a part of the team responsible for testing, calibration, and data analysis for Liquid Piston’s advanced rotary engines. This is a hands‑on, high-ownership role where you will be responsible for the operation of engine test cells from hardware and controls to data quality and calibration development. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to plan and execute test campaigns, develop control strategies, automate data workflows, and optimize engine performance across various fuels and operating conditions.
Responsibilities- Take ownership of engine dynamometer test cell operation, maintenance, and output quality.
- Design, build, and maintain engine test setups, including instrumentation and control systems.
- Plan and execute test programs with performance engineers to evaluate engine performance, durability, and emissions.
- Lead or assist in engine assembly and collaborate closely with a test technician (including hands‑on work when needed).
- Calibrate rotary engines for diesel and gasoline operation with a focus on performance and emissions optimization.
- Modify and manage DAQ and control systems for engine control and data acquisition.
- Debug and resolve mechanical, electrical, or software issues affecting test or calibration workflows.
- Collaborate with design and controls engineers to improve engine hardware and control strategies.
- Drive continuous improvements in test and calibration processes, tools, and documentation.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in engine testing, calibration, or powertrain development.
- Hands‑on experience with engine dynamometer operation and test cell environments.
- Proficiency with DAQ systems (e.g., LabVIEW, ATI, ETAS, DEWESoft, or similar).
- Strong understanding of combustion engines, thermodynamics, and control systems.
- Experience calibrating engines for diesel, gasoline, or multi‑fuel operation.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software issues in test environments.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel, or equivalent).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, hands‑on R&D environment.
