Job Summary

Working role that coordinates and assists the Supervisor in the Sanitation Department. The Sanitation Coordinator supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in sanitation of equipment and the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and directs Machine Cleaners, Building Cleaners, Helpers, Temporary and Part-Time Personnel required to meet daily and/or preventative sanitation schedules and emergency needs. Leads daily Shift Meetings.
  • Assesses and coaches employee performance and expectations. Conducts and processes probationary and regular employee performance reviews on a timely basis. Works with Supervisor to properly communicate policies and procedures to the work group.
  • Responsible for knowing the jobs supervised, documenting SSOPs, and executing them to the highest standards of product quality, food safety, safe workmanship and customer service. Develop SSOP for new equipment and update current SSOPs. Assist in validation of programs.
  • Assists in scheduling completion and maintaining records for the Master Sanitation Schedule for cleaning and associated procedures/task instructions in both manual and computerized systems. Tracks and assigns task items to all department shifts. Shares Master Sanitation Schedule KPIs metrics with the team and prioritizes activities based on it.
  • Maintains open communication channels with all departments. Helps achieve primary plant goals and objectives. Serves as point person for cross‑functional counterparts in requesting work and emergency needs.
  • Communicates thoroughly with the previous shift regarding personnel problems, unfinished task workload, special requests or requirements, crewing shortages, schedule changes, quality issues, or any situation requiring attention.
  • Performs sanitation audits for compliance to policies, SSOPs, corrective action tasks, and right‑first‑time metrics. Reviews collected data and analyzes sanitation problems/deficiencies relative to the plant and/or equipment. Initiates proper corrective action.
  • Maintains and documents hourly attendance schedules including vacations, floating holidays, and sick time. Tracks and manages overtime hours and reasons. Leads conversations for charge days with assistance from Supervisor.
  • Manages accurate completion of prerequisite programs—Allergens, Sanitation, Pest Control, and Environmental Monitoring—and ensures all other quality and food safety programs (SQF, HACCP, GMP) and personnel safety programs are adhered to.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures and schedules to meet production schedules.
  • Assembles and presents facts concerning disciplinary action in written form to the supervisor. Assists in issuing approved disciplinary action.
  • Monitors outside contractors involved in completing sanitation objectives or installing new equipment. Ensures contractors comply with all quality and safety requirements.
  • Interprets schedules, memos, emails and other documents and assigns duties to complete production or other essential tasks. Reviews and responds to email promptly and participates in all necessary meetings.
  • Conducts job‑specific training for new/existing employees in all plant programs, audits for accuracy, and ensures compliance.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve sanitation methods.
  • Works with the department manager and supervisor to assign work and follow‑up to ensure timely completion.
  • Performs visual inspections and swabbing as required.
  • Supplies coworkers with necessary tools and supplies.
