Job Description:
The Platform Architect will be responsible for designing and developing architecture definitions for platform services within the Platform, focusing on embedded infrastructure services such as bootup/commissioning, storage management, and thermal management. This role involves driving architecture and design for embedded software and collaborating with software engineers and architects across system software, virtualization, trusted OS, graphics, compute, device drivers, storage, networking, safety/security, and architecting component‑level and system‑level solutions.
- Design and develop architecture definitions for platform services focusing on embedded infrastructure services (bootup, commissioning, storage management, thermal management).
- Drive architecture and design for embedded software, working closely with engineers and architects in system software, virtualization, trusted OS, graphics, compute, device drivers, storage, networking, safety/security.
- Act as a technical leader, providing insight and technical direction to resolve issues, drive development processes, and improve processes and technologies for current and future applications.
- Collaborate with hardware engineering and architecture teams to ensure hardware systems designs meet software requirements and vice versa.
- Architect solutions using Linux, Android, and microcontroller RTOSs, storage/persistence layers, internal and peripheral device management, and application management for embedded hardware installed on aircraft (servers, seatback displays, network distribution equipment).
- Work with development teams to break down architecture into development tasks, review deliverables against design specifications, and resolve design issues or blockers with solutions that meet product requirements.
- In‑depth knowledge of operating systems concepts and architecture, particularly Linux/Android, integration into embedded hardware, and experience with device drivers and kernel modules.
- Experience designing and developing software for embedded systems, including hardware abstraction and device drivers. Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, and low‑level hardware components.
- Experience with storage systems and file systems, including disk partitioning, RAID, distributed file systems, data replication, and backup. Familiarity with file, block, and object storage architecture.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking (VLAN, STP, QNQ, LLDP, OSPF, IGMP, BGP).
- Experience with virtualization technologies – containers, hypervisors, container orchestration, hardware and device virtualization in Linux and Android environments.
- Experience with hardware bring‑up, provisioning, and commissioning.
- Experience designing and implementing over‑the‑air architectures for edge computing (call home, A/B partitioning) and cloud‑based technologies (CDN).
- Ability to lead and work in fast‑paced Agile (SAFe and SCRUM) global team settings, mentoring junior team members with minimal supervision.
