Overview
The Mental Health Technician (MHT), functioning under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Mental Health Clinician, is responsible for the direct care of mental health patients based on established standards and licensure guidelines. The MHT models Dayton Children’s values through effective interaction with patients, families, and treatment team members while providing excellent care.
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides supportive, trauma-informed care to patients and families. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, completion of routine safety checks and constant attendance on patients as ordered, ensuring patient safety and adherence to treatment plans. The MHT demonstrates strong therapeutic communication skills, accepts delegated tasks, and understands how to ask pertinent questions and report patient information as indicated, including behavioral changes and mental status updates.
The MHT appropriately handles sensitive patient information, upholding strict confidentiality and privacy guidelines.
Responsibilities also include assistance with activities of daily living, accurate documentation, and collaboration with the treatment team. The MHT can function as the unit clerk and/or support coordinator, assisting the team lead in clerical duties and daily unit operations. The MHT complies with the safety management program designed to provide a secure and therapeutic physical environment, free of hazards, and to reduce the risk of injury, including de-escalation techniques.
The MHT is knowledgeable about and responsive to the hospital mission and the goals of the mental health unit, promoting a patient- and family-centered, trauma-informed environment, and acting as a change agent to meet changing census and needs of all customers within the mental health setting.

- days, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- weekend and holiday rotations
