First Assistant District Attorney

Overview

Perry County is accepting applications for a First Assistant District Attorney in the District Attorney’s Office. This position is responsible to handle appeal cases arising out of the prosecution by the Perry County District Attorney.

• Research legal issues relevant to individual cases
• Draft and edit legal motions, briefs, and written arguments
• Review case files, motions, briefs and/or appeals to prepare appeal defenses
• Argue cases before the Appellate Courts
• Attend trials, preliminary hearings, motions hearings, and other court appearances for purposes of prosecuting cases
• Prepare cases for trials and other court hearings, including negotiations with attorneys and interviewing witnesses
• Assist and advise police officers on the filing of charges and case investigation
• Prepare correspondence to attorneys and other court personnel including discovery packages

• Doctoral degree and a graduate of an accredited law school with 2 – 5 years of relevant experience
• Admitted into the Pennsylvania State Bar

Compensation includes a starting salary of $34.83/hour with consideration for experience. Perry County employment offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes generous paid time off, a county retirement plan, and health, dental, and vision insurance after a 90-day probation period.
