Responsible for the financial reporting information for the GROWMARK wholesale business divisions and other GMK subsidiaries, as assigned. Coordinates with the various divisions in the analysis of key financial performance indicators and develops and maintains system reporting mechanisms for these key performance indicators.
Supervision and LeadershipSupervises, leads, and develops the Staff Accountant and Accounting Specialist positions.
Essential Job Functions- Prepare, analyze, and communicate GROWMARK wholesale division financial statements, and any other assigned GROWMARK subsidiary statements.
- Lead the identification of relevant insights and the development of analytical reports and illustrations that support financial decision‑making in the product areas supported.
- Reconcile all assigned general ledger accounts related to the preparation of the division financial statements.
- Control and reconcile varied and extensive derivative and mark‑to‑market accounting practices and associated data.
- Communicate with the product divisions and respective management regarding positions for use in risk‑management decision‑making; monitor position processes and data to confirm reporting accuracy and policy compliance.
- Recommend and monitor policies and procedures for pertinent cost, sales, and inventory accounting.
- Recommend changes and enhancements to the enterprise resource planning system; provide leadership to Product Accounting employees in design, testing, and implementation of changes to improve GAAP accounting, internal controls, financial reporting, and processing efficiency.
- Lead the maintenance and development of accounting processes for pertinent areas to foster effective internal controls and high‑quality GAAP accounting.
- Collaborate with product division personnel to obtain information and solve problems relating to sales, cost of sales, inventory, and any special programs; provide analytical insight and the implications that GAAP accounting has on reported gross margins.
- Review and prepare assigned audit tasks for the annual audits; work directly with audit staff to resolve any audit‑related questions.
- Coordinate with the Director of Product Accounting on the interpretation of GAAP accounting treatment of the financial statements.
- Encourage, support, and promote innovative practices, ideas, and technologies within the team.
- Follow GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA, and DOT policies and procedures as they apply.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- College degree in accounting, finance, or business administration (or equivalent) and a Certified Public Accountant designation, with at least 7+ years of related experience demonstrating ability to provide product accounting and processing leadership.
- Understanding of and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), management accounting principles, financial decision‑making, accounting information systems, business processes, cost accounting, risk management, hedging, internal controls, policies, compliance, and accounting strategic planning.
- Preferred: thorough understanding of SAP and other ERP system business processes, settings, and data structure.
- Strong competency in implementing system development initiatives and using accounting software, data querying tools, data analytics tools, and databases.
