Overview
Responsible for providing care for patients/athletes including assessment, treatment, care planning and medical care evaluation by following standards and practices. Assists physicians, mid-levels, and other staff in coordinating patient/athlete care. Acts as a liaison between the patient/athlete, their parents/guardians, physicians and physician staff, as well as the coaching staff to communicate effectively regarding the athlete’s injury and care.
Responsibilities- Cares for and assists patients/athletes
- Cleans and stocks exam rooms
- Ensures ATC kit is stocked appropriately for outreach coverage
- Obtains and documents a proper intake including patient’s health history, vital signs, and health risk factors; assesses condition via MORSE fall scale or Oswestry pain scale as appropriate
- Maintains and updates knowledge base of ATC/medical practices and current literature to maintain currency of practice and improve patient/athlete care
- Obtains patient consent for care/in‑office procedures
- Sets up and assists with office surgeries and procedures: US injections, C‑arm injections, fracture closed reductions, podiatric office procedures
- Cast and splint application, removal, and patient education
- Performs dressing changes and applications with patient education; suture and staple removal
- Fits patients with boots, braces and other DME items as ordered by the provider and provides patient education specific for the item
- Prepares injections
- Works closely with provider, nursing, coaching and other staff to ensure quality patient/athlete care
- Maintains all appropriate documentation (consent to treat for outreach coverage; injury evaluation, follow‑up, referrals and rehabilitation)
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies; complies with HIPAA, OSHA and Red Flag Rules
- Provides outreach athletic training services to contracted clubs, high schools, college teams as assigned
- Communicates effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, coaching staff, team and community physicians, physical therapists and other athletic trainers regarding the injury and plan of care
- Provides onsite care and management of illness and injuries including prevention, education, evaluation, management and rehabilitation; minimizes risk through awareness, education and prevention strategies
- Uses electronic documentation for all patient/athlete encounters
- Possesses strong critical thinking skills and ability to make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return‑to‑play per state licensure guidelines
- Can work calmly and effectively under pressure, collaborating with the entire medical team to perform life‑saving measures in a crisis

Certified Athletic Trainer – Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) - Certification:

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
Education:
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training;
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training
