Apprentice Lineman – Bloomington, IL

This four‑step training program, lasting 3.5 years, is designed to give the employee the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to become a lineman as per Corn Belt Energy policy.

• Install transformers, regulators and reclosers, and make the proper wiring connections.
• Operate and work from aerial bucket trucks.
• Perform lineman duties on both secondary and primary voltages on energized lines.
• Operate equipment including line construction trucks, backhoes, trenchers, service vans, pickups and service trucks.
• Understand theories of voltage regulation, fault currents and coordination of line protection devices.
• Use all hand tools, implements, devices, equipment and material required for work.
• Construct overhead and underground lines and operate all equipment necessary to complete those tasks.
• Basic metering including connecting service as well as disconnects.
• Cut and trim trees as needed.
• Read and comprehend the training program text and workbooks.
• Develop a working knowledge of construction specifications and the National Electrical Safety Code.
• Apply OSHA, company regulations and safety rules.
• Learn to climb poles and towers.
• Submit to and pass random drug testing per DOT requirements and maintain a CDL‑A physical and medical examination.
• Maintain underground and overhead electrical systems by replacing damaged components on energized and de‑energized lines.
• Account for materials used, stock trucks, load/unload materials, and inspect distribution and transmission lines for maintenance.
• Submit all required paperwork to comply with company rules and government regulations.
• Must reside or be willing to relocate within a 20‑mile radius of the Bloomington office.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Accredited electrical line worker course of study desirable.
• Illinois CDL‑A.
• CPR certification.
• Willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require.
• Observes all safety rules and regulations adopted by CBEC.
• Attends schools and conferences as requested by CBEC management.
• Travels on a limited basis; most trips will be within a two hundred‑mile radius of the office; occasional other trips in the country.
• Purchases tools and equipment as specified by CBEC policy.
• Passes background check and drug testing.

• Work performed inside and outside; outside work involves various weather conditions.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Requires face‑to‑face discussions with individuals.
• Includes exposure to contaminants.
• Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
• Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
