Purpose of Position
Maintain and construct overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Line work processes involving safety, first aid, tools, and equipment nomenclature, care, and use.
- Work on low voltage energized lines, including setting single‑phase and multi‑phase meters, erection of poles, and use of power equipment, including hydraulic equipment. Both overhead and underground construction.
- Hot‑line work on single and three‑phase lines: installation of transformers, arrestors, capacitors, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, regulators; cover‑up equipment; troubleshooting and emergency repairs; changing of poles, crossarms, and insulators; including use of all hot line tools.
- Familiarization with residential and commercial wiring, including power and control wiring; various electrical measuring devices, including basic meters, multi‑phase meters, and recording meters.
- Maintain work records, including member connects, disconnects, meter changes, work orders, and material charge‑out forms.
- Climb poles on a daily basis; various heights.
- Respond to an approved percentage of after‑hours outage calls.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Successfully completed the Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Standards.
- Possess an acceptable IBEW or similar Journeyman Lineman Certificate of Completion.
- Valid CDL‑A license with air brake and trailer add-ons.
- Must reside or be willing to relocate within a 20‑mile radius of the Bloomington, IL office.
- CPR certification.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require.
- Must observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by CBEC.
- Must attend schools and conferences as requested by the CBEC management.
- Must be able to travel on a limited basis; most trips will be limited to a 200‑mile radius of Bloomington, IL; occasional other trips in the country.
- Must purchase tools and equipment as specified in the CBEC personnel policy manual.
- Work performed inside and outside; outside work involves various weather conditions.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to climb and descend poles of various heights under various weather conditions commonly experienced in the geographic region.
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and vibration; occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and explosives.
Must be able to pass a background check. We also conduct pre‑employment drug testing. Any job offer will be based on the results of background and drug testing.
