Overview
IU Museum of Archaeology & Ant (BL-MAA-IUBLA) – The Indiana University (IU) Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA) cares for archaeological and ethnographic collections. The Museum tells the human stories behind these objects and uplifts the source and descendant communities connected to them, providing a gateway to the rich cultural heritage of humanity right from IU Bloomington's campus.
PositionVisitor Services Associates work as part of the Learning and Community Engagement (LCE) team to ensure the museum is a place where all visitors feel welcome and engaged. They work at our welcome desk and in our galleries and help full-time LCE staff host programs both on and off-site.
Responsibilities- Works in visitor-facing spaces including at the welcome desk and in galleries to provide excellent customer service.
- Helps visitors connect with the museum's offerings.
- Answers the telephone and directs calls as needed.
- May help host programs/events.
- Assists other museum departments in administrative tasks like data entry, scanning, etc.
- Walks the building routinely to offer assistance and ensure the building is safe, tidy, and welcoming for all.
- Assists the LCE team and Operations teams in preparing rooms for events.
- Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
- Work Experience:
Some experience in customer service
- Required
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to learn new things
- Ability to troubleshoot
- Basic computing skills including the ability to use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and online forms
- Preferred
- Bilingual in English and any other language
The role frequently requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. This position is also very active and requires moving about the workspace and ascending/descending stairs or ladders. The role occasionally moves objects that weigh up to 50 pounds with assistance. The role requires the ability to position oneself to move at lower levels. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away.
The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Bloomington, Indiana. This is an in-person position. $15.00 per hour. 8 - 18 hours per week.
