Associate or Full Professor of Music (Audio Engineering)

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music invites applications for a dynamic and forward‑thinking educator with significant expertise in classical music recording and production to join the Music Industry Department as a faculty member specializing in Audio Engineering. The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music combines artistry, pedagogy, and research to prepare its students to fully realize the potential of the expressive arts to change lives and to enrich society.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in the Audio Engineering major of the Music Production degree. Areas of instructional focus may include:
  • Science and physics of sound and core technical audio production skills
  • Classical music recording and production
  • Modern Studio recording and mixing techniques
  • Immersive audio
  • Audio mastering
  • Live sound reinforcement
  • Advanced digital audio workstation (DAW) techniques
  • Supervise and mentor Audio Engineering students enrolled in X90 Audio Technical Crew, supporting their involvement in audio production for Jacobs School performances and associated activities
  • Remain active in creative activity/research pursuits in the field
  • Foster collaboration with other Indiana University units such as The Media School;
    Kelley School of Business; and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering
  • Engage with professional organizations such as the Audio Engineering Society, The Recording Academy, the Society of Professional Audio Recording Studios, ASCAP/BMI/SESAC, etc.
  • Student advising, student recruitment, and service on departmental and Jacobs School committees is expected
Basic Qualifications

Candidates must possess a record of excellence in the recording and production of classical music, accompanied by a comprehensive knowledge of the classical repertoire. Demonstrated expertise in modern studio recording, live sound reinforcement, sound design for visual media, immersive audio production, and studio maintenance is highly desirable. Experience with teaching and curriculum development in a university environment and five or more years of professional experience is required.

The Music Industry Department utilizes Pro Tools as its primary production platform; applicants must demonstrate expertise or a strong commitment to achieving expert‑level proficiency in its use.

Bachelor’s degree in audio engineering, music, or a related field required;
Master’s degree is preferred, however equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
