Position: Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education

Indiana University Northwest, one of nine campuses of Indiana University, is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and fairness-focused leader as the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education located in metropolitan Northwest Indiana, approximately 30 miles southeast of Chicago and 10 miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park. At Indiana University Northwest, the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the college, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction.

The Dean is responsible for overseeing academic programs, faculty affairs, budget management, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards across disciplines in the Arts, Sciences, and Education. This role plays a critical part in advancing the campus’s mission of academic excellence, innovation, student success, and community engagement.

The Dean exercises broad responsibilities for all aspects of the academic, student, and external community dimensions in coordination with faculty and other university leaders. The Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The IU Northwest College of Arts, Sciences, and Education provides students premier undergraduate and graduate education through on-campus, hybrid, and online programs (in collaboration with other IU regional campuses).

The position is a twelve-month appointment that will include a tenured faculty appointment in one of the academic programs offered in the College.

Key Responsibilities Leadership
  • Provide strategic leadership for the newly formed College of Arts, Sciences, and Education, fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a key member of the Campus’s academic leadership team, contributing to campus-wide planning and policy development.
  • Develop, manage and oversee the College’s budget, currently totaling $11 million, including preparation of annual budget requests, regular monitoring of revenue and expenditures, and ensuring effective allocation of resources to support academic priorities.
  • Advocate for funding and resources to support faculty, staff, and programmatic needs.
  • Collaborate with Deans from other regional campuses to develop and sustain collaborative academic programs.
  • Provide leadership for the exempt and non-exempt staff in the College.
  • Represent the college to external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, community partners, and accrediting bodies.
  • Cultivate revenue generating opportunities, including but not limited to grants and donor relationships.
Academic Excellence
  • Ensure the academic excellence of programs within their units.
  • Manage faculty personnel processes and recommendations within the College, as well as oversee management of personnel issues to include recruitment, performance management, development and advancement, in support of teaching, research and service.
  • Make faculty administrative appointments within the College, ensuring appropriate onboarding, mentoring, and annual review.
  • Manage the development and retention of faculty and staff.
  • Serve as point person for college in accreditation processes (campus and discipline-specific).
  • Support effective implementation of program reviews or disciplinary accreditation processes and policies for relevant programs.
Student Learning and Success
  • Supervise curriculum development, program evaluations, and the implementation of academic policies; ensure curricula and program portfolio aligns with regional needs and strategic priorities of the institution.
  • Establish vision, guidance, and expectations for the enrollment management work of the school leaders, including but not limited to program marketing, student recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives, including supervision of student services and support programs.
