Description
The Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (OVPIA) and its staff are the stewards of international activity across all campuses of Indiana University (IU). They provide strategic leadership and advocacy for all international programs and projects, and coordinate resources necessary to sustain growth. The goal is to enable as many students, faculty, and staff as possible to pursue international and intercultural knowledge and experiences, and to become engaged global citizens.
IU Education Abroad promotes education abroad for IU students through participation in quality programs across a wide range of disciplines. It enhances international awareness and understanding, enriches curricula on every campus, and expands opportunities abroad for students from diverse backgrounds. It aims to contribute significantly to careers in all fields of specialization and to be an integral part of an IU education.
IU Education Abroad facilitates the experiences of approximately 4,600 students annually from all IU campuses, with about 75 % receiving some form of financial aid. The program works to broaden and increase participation in education abroad, international internships, and service‑learning programs.
Job Summary Department‑Specific Responsibilities- Assures that students receive pre‑departure information regarding travel, housing, finances, academics, and visas.
- Initiates electronic permissions and/or registers applicants in appropriate IU Education Abroad courses and sections.
- Serves as liaison with partner institutions and organizations, admissions offices at host universities abroad, IU offices administering programs, and consular offices in the United States.
- Coordinates Consortium programs’ applications, admissions, correspondence, visa documentation, and transcripts.
- Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admissions into the school and accompanying material, such as transcripts, to determine eligibility.
- Maintains records and databases of applications; updates and purges as necessary; gathers and collates information from records and prepares reports.
- Reviews applications for completeness, contacts applicants for any missing information or to resolve discrepancies, and obtains any necessary information from other sources.
- Schedules and oversees any applicant interviews.
- Makes recommendations regarding admissions and financial aid decisions, and contacts applicant regarding the decision on the admission application.
- Responds to phone and email inquiries on admissions process and status of applications; may assist in the design of recruiting events and materials.
- Counsels potential students regarding courses and grades required for admission.
- May supervise temporary staff in the admissions office; monitors and evaluates job performance.
- Maintains files and databases on students admitted into the school; generates reports based on this information.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
