Overview

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics – part of the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at IU Indianapolis, invites applicants for a Lecturer appointment in the Health Informatics Program. Exceptional instructors are being sought to join our fast-growing department.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching in the Health Informatics Program, developing courses for the traditional classroom setting, computer labs, and online education; help setting program goals, developing and updating the curriculum and training activities; contributing to the recruitment and marketing of the program; interviewing, evaluating and advising students; engaging in scholarly activity; serving as a member of the school and departmental committees; maintaining current knowledge in the field through active participation in professional organizations, collaboration, practice and research;

    and serving on professional committees.
  • The appointment can begin immediately on the IU Indianapolis campus but will remain open until filled.
  • Cover major areas of the AMIA 2017 core competencies of Health Informatics Education that lie in the intersection of (1) Health Information Science and Technology; (2) Human Factors and Socio-technical systems; and (3) Social and Behavioral Aspects of Health.
  • This position entails a standard teaching load of four courses per semester, with a distribution of effort consisting of 80% teaching and 20% service responsibilities. Also, this is an in-person faculty appointment requiring full-time on-campus presence. Salary is competitive based on experience and qualifications.

About the Department

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (BMEI) is home to a dynamic and interdisciplinary group of 20 faculty members and over 300 students across its Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics (BMI), Biomedical Engineering and Health Information Management (HIM) programs. The Department offers a B.S. in HIM, a B.S. in BMI, an M.S. in Health Informatics, an M.S. in Bioinformatics, an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, seven Graduate Certificates, a Ph.D. in Informatics - Health and Biomedical Informatics Track, and a Ph.D. in Informatics - Bioinformatics Track.

The faculty conduct research in clinical and health informatics, systems interventions, community participatory research, human-computer interaction, usability, mobile technology and bioinformatics. Indiana University is connected with IHIE and MHIN, and collaborates with multiple healthcare systems in Indiana. BMEI works with the Regenstrief Institute and other IU centers and schools.
