IU CREATE (Center For Reliable and Trusted Electronics) addresses critical issues in microelectronics (ME) technologies, bridging the gap between commercial ME innovation and technologies meeting stringent space and defense application requirements. We are dedicated to leading secure, trusted, and sustainable research in microelectronics with a focus on ME design, ME radiation effects, reliability, and workforce development. We aim to conduct cutting‑edge research on ME reliability in extreme environments, develop reliable solutions to accelerate commercial technology adoption for space and defense, and support technology transfer from lab‑to‑fab.

IU CREATE aims to promote innovative education in ME and space sciences, fostering a collaborative hub for academic, government, and industry partnerships. Additionally, IU CREATE is committed to expanding workforce participation in space sciences through research, educational and workforce development initiatives.

The IU Center for Reliable and Trusted Electronics (CREATE) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Radiation Effects Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Center Director, graduate students, and program sponsors to analyze and evaluate the impact of radiation on electronic systems and materials, ensuring the reliability of devices used in space, defense, and other radiation‑prone environments.

Department‑Specific

Responsibilities
  • Conduct radiation testing and characterization of electronic components and materials.
  • Assist in analyzing radiation effects on semiconductor devices, circuits, and systems through modeling, simulation, and experimental studies.
  • Collaborate with program sponsors to ensure program alignment.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation of research findings.
  • Plan and execute radiation component testing for TID, SEE, DD, and Prompt Dose environments.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring the accuracy of testing procedures.
  • May supervise, train, and oversee the work products of Junior Radiation Effects Engineers.
  • Conduct modeling and simulation studies of microelectronic radiation effects and reliability failure modes.
  • Participate in grant and contract efforts supporting IU CREATE.
  • Participate in acquisition and execution of SBIR and STTR programs.
  • Lead/serve as the technical subject matter expert for a limited number of federally funded and industry‑funded research and development programs within IU CREATE.
General Responsibilities
  • Develop or assist in the development of moderately complex project proposals, plans, and protocols.
  • Maintain and oversee research projects.
  • Conduct non‑routine experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts.
  • Coordinate or assist logistics of research to include equipment, materials, and labor needs.
  • Collect data/samples related to others' research sometimes in complex cases.
  • Record, compile, process and analyze data/samples.
  • Document results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others.
  • Assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include assisting in literature reviews and assisting in the writing of results and discussions.
Education Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Research, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
Preferred
  • Ph.D. degree in Research, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
Work Experience Required
  • 4 years of relevant experience
Preferred
  • Supervisory, training, or project management experience
  • Previous internship or academic research in radiation effects or related fields
  • Experience in using simulation tools like SPICE or similar
  • Familiarity with space and defense industry standards for radiation testing
