Job Details:

• Work 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts

• Every other weekend requirement

• 24 hours of orientation provided

• Patient ratios: 5 patients during days, 6 patients during nights and weekends

• Must have 2 years of experience required

• Required certifications: BCLS and NIHSS

• Cerner charting system experience required

• Floating to other units is 100% required

• May be required to take on charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources provided

• Care for adult and geriatric patients with medical surgical diagnoses

• Unit has daily census of 24 patients

•

Required skills:

Med/Surg, starting and maintaining IVs, nasal cannula, oxygen administration

• Preferred skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, previous charge experience

• Work with patients requiring overnight observation for continued work-up

• Handle medical surgical diagnoses including COVID, abdominal pain, respiratory distress

• Flu vaccine required with medical/religious exemptions only

• First time travelers not accepted

• Local Indiana RN travelers not accepted for Med Surg positions

• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

This healthcare facility operates a Medical Surgical unit directly adjacent to the Emergency Department, functioning similar to a clinical decision unit. The unit specializes in caring for patients requiring overnight observation for continued work-up and assessment. The facility provides comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretaries to ensure optimal patient care outcomes.
