Under general supervision, leads the outdoor maintenance team in performing a wide range of duties to ensure the campus grounds remain clean, welcoming, safe, and secure. Performs related duties as assigned.
Scope:The Outdoor Maintenance Lead performs maintenance duties across the Bloomington campus facilities with flexibility, professionalism, and a servant’s heart.

Ability to:Must be able to work with chemicals, safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials and fluids, operate manual and power equipment, and work effectively in and around the public. Requires the ability to perform physical labor, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and maintain cooperative working relationships. Must demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population and any potentially sensitive information.
The role also requires the ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs, solve practical problems, and respond appropriately to non‑routine situations.
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic knowledge of outdoor maintenance equipment.
- Building teams and working with volunteers is recommended.
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise.
- Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
