The Department of Biology is a large, unified department with strong undergraduate degrees, nationally ranked graduate programs, and world-class research spanning the breadth of biological questions and experimental systems – from ecosystems to microbiology and developmental biology, from evolution to cell biology, from molecular biology to systems biology, bioinformatics, and genomics. It is an exciting time for Biology – enormous advances in global genome analysis coupled with unprecedented developments in interdisciplinary research have made the 21st century the Century of Biology.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION AVAILABLE TO CHARACTERIZE DNA BINDING OF A NEW CLASS OF PHOTORECEPTORSA position is available for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. David Kehoe in the Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington to characterize the DNA binding activity of novel photoreceptors in marine Synechococcus using DNA /protein biochemistry and computational approaches. This project is funded by the NSF Systems and Synthetic Biology Program and builds on our successful initial studies of Type 4 Chromatic Acclimation (CA4) as described in publications in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA and Annual Review of Microbiology.
Briefly, this project will focus on determining the DNA binding sites and light color-regulate binding activities of two novel photoreceptors we have identified as master regulators of CA4.
A Ph.D. in molecular biology or biochemistry is required, in addition to at least two years’ experience in transcription factor- DNA binding research. Knowledge of prokaryotic signal transduction and transcriptional control is desirable but not essential. Only candidates who are U.S. citizens or who have a currently valid visa for research work in the U.S. can be considered for this position.
Kehoe lab information is at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).. Initiative, a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic research team is expected.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. This position will include full benefits (health insurance, retirement, etc.). Best consideration date is December 10, 2026. Expected start date is January 20, 2027, although the position will remain open until filled.
