Description

Incumbent serves as the regular full‑time Laborer for the Sports Division and is directly involved in the daily upkeep and maintenance of all sports facilities in the city.

Duties

  • Prepares and submits to the Sports Division Supervisors proposals, equipment requirements, and material needs designed to meet the maintenance needs of the Sports Division.
  • Schedules, directs, and gives hands‑on assistance to work crews in the upkeep and maintenance of sports facilities including mowing, aeration, fertilization, irrigation, field lighting, scoreboard maintenance, re‑sodding, seeding, infield grooming, general facility and restroom cleaning. Directs crews and assists in sports‑related maintenance of tennis/pickleball courts, nets, and lights. Assists the Sports Division Supervisors in making daily playability decisions.
  • Assist in maintenance operation of the Twin Lakes Recreation Center with the completion of tasks including repair/upkeep of fitness equipment, drinking fountains, scoreboard, snow removal, facility cleaning and special projects with Facility Operations Coordinator.
  • Responsible for assisting the Facility Operations Coordinator in the recruitment, training, management and evaluation of seasonal employees.
  • Ability to work in all conditions and times as required by the scheduled events within the sports division.
  • Assists division staff at special events or programs. Schedules and assists work crews for weekend facility events that include league games, local, regional, and national tournaments.
  • Takes all reasonable steps to ensure and maintain a safe work environment at all facilities.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); or combination of education and experience that give the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Knowledge of the full range of theories and principles accepted in the field of grounds and facility maintenance.
  • Ability to operate trucks and equipment such as various mowing equipment, weed eater, chain saw, aerifier/aerator, rototiller, small tractor, and small hand tools.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Ability to direct, train, coordinate, and evaluate the work of temporary part‑time staff.
  • Ability to obtain Red Cross First Aid and CPR training within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to obtain Registered Technician and 3B Turf Management licenses through OISC within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Incumbent performs duties, which are broad in scope and impact and require the consideration of complex variables and their potential interrelationships in the assessment, design, and implementation of short and long‑range goals and objectives of the sports division.

Position requires flexible work schedule including weekends, early morning and evening hours and is on call. A considerable amount of physical effort and seasonally long hours may be required to accomplish assigned job duties.

On call and weekend/holiday duty may be required for work assignments.

Personal Work Relationships

Incumbent maintains frequent contact with the sports working foreperson, part time staff, public, and participants to ensure delivery of consistent department policy and high quality of program services.

Incumbent needs to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff and the general public. Incumbent needs to be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
