Winter Seasonal Maintenance Worker
Join State of Indiana for the Winter Seasonal Maintenance Worker role, responsible for general highway maintenance and winter operations. A CDL is required.
Role OverviewThis position performs general highway maintenance duties to keep INDOT assets in good working condition. Seasonal Winter Program Workers perform snow and ice removal by operation of snow plow and other winter operations duties as required. Traffic maintenance duties such as repairing and installing traffic signs and pavement markings are also required.
Pay Rate$21.00 per hour.
A Day In The Life- Operate basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.
- Move and load supplies and materials.
- Winter operation duties including snow and ice removal.
- Perform emergency response activities such as clean‑up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
- Perform equipment maintenance such as minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre‑trip inspections.
- Comply with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Perform miscellaneous labor tasks.
- Perform job documentation tasks such as entry into the Work Management System (WMS).
- High school graduate or High School Equivalent (HSE) preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
- Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
- Ability to move 50 pounds.
- Physical capability to lift, drag, stoop, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
- Endure exposure to inclement weather.
- Operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g., bucket trucks, paint equipment).
- Follow directions and work as part of a team.
- Work unpredictable and non‑traditional hours as necessary for winter operations.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
