Part Time Recreation Instructor (Youth and Family Programs PT Seasonal) – Bloomington, MN

Primary Objective of Position: Provide supervision of participants, plan, organize and instruct activities at various locations across Bloomington in cooperation with the Summer Leadership Team and Recreation Supervisor.

Examples of Duties
  • Provide a safe, fun and appropriate experience for all participants.
  • Assist Program Leads or Program Specialists in planning, organizing and leading activities at multiple sites and camps.
  • Lead specific programs or activities as delegated by Program Leads or Program Specialists.
  • Assist in filling out weekly attendance reports and post-season evaluation of program and recommendations for next season.
  • Prepare reports on participants, incidents and property damage.
  • Provide support to create an inclusive environment for all participants and staff.
  • Ensure program compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
  • Attend and participate in staff trainings and meetings.
  • Provide mentorship and work direction for Teen Volunteers.
  • Follow staff policies and procedures; ensure participants follow established policies.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Program Leads or Program Specialists.
  • Adhere to and enforce state health guidelines.
Minimum / Desirable Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 15 years of age or older
  • Must be able to attend staff training on June 10-12
  • Must have a means of transportation to and from assigned locations
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Must have experience working with children
  • Desirable

    Qualifications:

  • High School or College student with 1+ years working in a community recreation or education program.
  • Experience working with children; knowledge of child behavior and ability to supervise.
  • Ability to plan and lead a variety of recreation activities for preschool to junior high youth; skills in leading sports and indoor/outdoor games.
  • Creativity in developing and implementing new program ideas.
  • Willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City programs.
Supplemental Information
  • Supervision Of Others: This position supervises registered participants.
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: 2026 Full Salary Range: $16.76-$19.61.

    Elidable for time off benefits.

Candidates who are 15 are typically scheduled for training and work 4-5 weeks of the summer, 28+ hours per week.
