Overview
Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor - Bloomington, MN. This role reports to the Senior Manager for Manufacturing at the Bloomington site and leads the manufacturing engineering team in supporting manufacturing operations. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead team members to establish manufacturing plans, monitor performance, establish processes and procedures, and work with design engineering teams to provide design for manufacturing recommendations and transition new products into production.
The team is responsible for establishing cost and cycle time targets for manufacturing processes and for sustaining production processes in control while leading corrective actions as needed. The role coordinates cross-functional activities to execute manufacturing processes, implement continuous improvement, and ensure customer requirements are met.
- Oversee the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for new and existing products
- Act as DPMO or support DPMO to assigned programs
- Ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements
- Collaborate across departments—Lines of Business, Supply Chain Management, and Engineering to align program objectives
- Manage people, including performance evaluations and merit recommendations
- Work closely with product design/engineering to ensure new products are transitioned into production
- Act as a liaison with engineering in releasing new products
- Ensure internal quality practices comply with external regulations
- Manage capital requirements in facilities and ensure equipment meets safety, quality, and productivity requirements
- Apply lean manufacturing techniques, cost reduction, on-time delivery, safety, visual controls, and plant performance measurements
- Optimize use of materials, equipment, and personnel to produce quality products at minimum costs
- Implement and analyze manufacturing engineering plans and projects
- Design, develop, and transfer manufacturing engineering tools, strategies, and systems
- Lead other managers and/or supervisors related to a business area, project, or strategic activity
- Develop and implement long-range goals and objectives to meet profitability growth objectives
- Monitor process changes to improve efficiency and assess impact on cost, cycle time, and quality
- Communicate relevant information to related teams and departments
- Ensure process compliance of all manufacturing activity in areas of responsibility
- Contribute to strategies for pricing, program planning, risk management, negotiations, and margin generation for programs at the proposal stage
- Establish hiring criteria for senior operations staff and manage hiring
- Lead and manage proposals within the business area
- Develop operations schedules and baselines in response to program direction and lifecycle requirements
- Identify schedule and resource risks and develop risk reduction plans
- Lead earned value requirements development and execution
- Review operations plans to meet sales planning requirements and determine manufacturing or outsourcing needs for new products/markets
- Regularly assess team performance against established processes
- Mentor and develop other operations managers and supervisors
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement across the organization
- Achieve strategic goals for the area; may be responsible for multiple functions, locations, products, or technical abilities
- Maintain regular communications with senior and division-level management
- Travel may be required; regular customer interface
- Bachelor’s degree in a related specialized area or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations
- U.S. citizenship is required; ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
