Target Security Specialists help ensure the safety and security of guests, employees, and merchandise through intelligence‑led tactics and crisis response. This role is responsible for maintaining a secure environment, responding to incidents, and supporting the overall store operations.
SalaryStarting hourly rate: $18.00 USD. Pay range: $18.00–$27.00 USD per hour.

All About Assets ProtectionAssets Protection (AP) teams keep our guests, team, and brand secure and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring product availability. They also build relationships with store leaders, public safety officials, and law enforcement.
Skills and Experience- Intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure
- Crisis response, safety, and crowd management experience supporting guests and team members
- De‑escalation skills and experience with physical security controls and culture
- Ability to utilize Target’s video surveillance system
- Timely and accurate documentation of cases using case‑management systems
- Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests at the front of store
- Promote a physical security culture by maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property
- Respond to and accurately document security incidents promptly
- Address guest issues to provide a safe environment for team members and guests
- Leverage de‑escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents
- Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, adhering to AP policies
- Prevent theft and shortage at the front of store by performing merchandise receipt checks and recognizing trends
- Submit appropriate documentation in the case‑management system for all incidents following AP policy and procedures
- Use Target’s video surveillance system appropriately
- Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance
- Work safely at all times and comply with all safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards and correct where possible
- Perform other duties based on business needs
- Enjoy interacting and helping others, including guests and team members
- Thrive in a fast‑moving, highly active, and physically demanding role that requires teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem‑solving
- Open to a flexible schedule with varying hours, days, or shifts—including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position
- Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members
- Ability to communicate on multiple‑frequenzied devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed
- Effective communication skills
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
- Maintain focus and composure in a fast‑paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks within established time frames
- Climb up and down ladders
- Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy
- Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary
- Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties
- Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
