Aboutthe role
The Production Lead is responsible for promoting safety awareness, producing high quality product, while maximizing daily throughput. They also provide leadership for the employees, while soliciting ideas for continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities- Promotes a high level of safety consciousness among shift employees and coaches to ensure company policies and procedures are followed.
- Assigns safety audit to employees for all areas.
- Initiates incident or near miss investigations.
- Communicates to supervisor or manager follow‑up and coaching with employees.
- Facilitates operation of the process to ensure we are producing high quality products and that current SOPs are followed.
- Collaborates with quality control technicians to ensure that customer quality specifications are met.
- Ensures that products are made in sanitary conditions and GMP practices are followed.
- Assigns GMP audit to employees for all areas.
- Initiates CAPA investigations for out‑of‑specification production.
- Communicates to supervisor or manager concerns with quality.
- Reviews priorities with supervisor or manager to ensure we are on task.
- Assigns responsibilities to shift employees as needed.
- Communicates to supervisor or manager concerns with meeting tasks.
- Monitors and signs off on production paperwork to ensure accurate records are recorded.
- Looks ahead at ingredients staged to ensure we have enough materials to produce the order requirements.
- Forecasts and calculates needs to complete order requirements.
- Operates and understands all job tasks of the operations from blending to finished packaging.
- Supports and coaches employees in their job tasks, trains as needed.
- Helps develop new SOPs as needed.
- With guidance from the manager, helps prepare and train employees on new procedures and changing processes.
- Communicates to supervisor or manager concerns with employees performing assigned tasks.
- Works as an active operator covering breaks, vacations and personal time as well as covering additional lead tasks.
- Documents and collects all daily production information.
- Records DPR data: number of units produced (waste & good), hours toward job, number of employees.
- Passes down a report detailing events during the shift.
- Collects all production paperwork from the shift, reviews and reconciles raw materials used and finished product produced, and turns it into shift manager.
- Leads the team through the cleaning process during the shift.
- Communicates with QC Techs to get approval of cleaned equipment.
- Ensures items are completed and signed off on.
- Solicits continuous improvement ideas from employees.
- Helps develop action plans to support improvement ideas.
- Evaluates personnel / employee needs and recommends development requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to tolerate the physical and environmental demands of this position with or without accommodations.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and identify issues within the process and use available resources to remedy these issues.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written form.
- Familiarity with manufacturing systems & Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Basic computer skills; team building skills.
- Food processing experience: previous manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience in quality control; strong mechanical aptitude/ability.
