Position: Baker I | Montage Palmetto Bluff

Overview

The Baker I role is responsible for preparing the highest quality food products for the restaurant and banquet events, following menu descriptions and direction from the pastry leadership team. The position reports to the Executive Pastry Chef and supports the company’s goals, objectives, vision, mission, and values.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare all menu items to specification, following directions of the pastry leadership team.
  • Maintain the highest level of execution and food quality, meeting timelines and BEO requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety rules & regulations (HAACP, Serv Safe, state ordinances).
  • Keep workstations and storage areas clean, organized, and properly labeled.
  • Inspect finished products for appearance, color, and quality.
  • Handle advanced baking math and understand baking & pastry skills for a wide range of products (mothers/starters, laminated doughs, yeasted breads, quick breads, muffins, coffee cakes, donuts, etc.).
  • Manage mixing, fermenting, shaping, proofing, scoring, baking, and cooling processes.
  • Assist the Head Baker with recipe development, menu creation, daily ordering, and production scheduling.
Qualifications
  • Certified cook or equivalent experience in food production and preparation.
  • Minimum of 2 years of baking experience.
  • Food Handlers permit.
  • Proficient in spoken and written communication in the primary workplace language(s).
  • Ability to perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Preferred
  • Experience in luxury hotel environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts.
  • Artisan bread experience.
  • Knowledge of current baking trends and modern methods.
  • Commitment to continuing education in baking.
Physical Requirements

Work is performed indoors with temperatures ranging from –10 °F (freezers) to +110 °F (kitchens). Duties include walking, standing, and moving for up to 8 hours per day. The position requires frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling carts up to 250 lbs, and performing repetitive motions. Flexibility, stooping, squatting, and heavy lifting may be required for trays and food items up to 30 lbs.
