A leading Tier 1 Contractor is seeking an experienced EHS Lead to join the senior project team on a major hyperscale data centre development in Blyth, Northumberland.
The EHS Lead will support the Project EHS Manager in leading the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the project's Environmental, Health and Safety management systems. You will coordinate EHS Advisors, engage with construction management teams and oversee subcontractor compliance across complex CSA, mechanical, electrical and commissioning activities.
Working closely with the Project Director, EHS Manager, construction teams, client representatives and specialist subcontractors, you will promote a strong safety culture and ensure that project activities comply with company procedures, client requirements and applicable UK legislation.

Key Responsibilities of the EHS LeadEHS Leadership and Strategy- Support the Project EHS Manager in implementing the project Environmental, Health and Safety strategy.
- Provide visible EHS leadership across all construction and commissioning activities.
- Promote a proactive, positive and inclusive safety culture throughout the project.
- Translate company and client EHS requirements into practical site controls.
- Ensure EHS objectives, responsibilities and expectations are clearly communicated.
- Advise senior project management on emerging risks, compliance issues and improvement priorities.
- Lead project EHS activities during the absence of the Project EHS Manager.
- Challenge unsafe practices and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
- Promote workforce ownership and accountability for health, safety and environmental performance.
- Coordinate the day‑to‑day activities of project EHS Advisors and support personnel.
- Allocate inspections, audits, meetings and specialist EHS responsibilities across the team.
- Review the quality and consistency of EHS reports, inspections and action tracking.
- Mentor EHS Advisors and support their technical and professional development.
- Establish clear priorities and performance expectations for the EHS team.
- Facilitate regular EHS team meetings and share key project updates.
- Ensure adequate EHS coverage is available for planned construction and commissioning activities.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding and development of new EHS personnel.
- Promote consistency in the application of project EHS procedures.
- Support compliance with applicable UK health and safety and environmental legislation.
- Monitor project compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
