The primary focus of the Engineering Apprentice is to support the business in the engineering, design, documentation and manufacturing of fire and gas detection systems. This may include multiple areas of engineering, including instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and more.

The tasks and responsibilities below are typical of the duties the postholder will be expected to perform.

Learning and understanding the processes involved in the calibration of gas detection and impairment technologies.

Learning and understanding stock control practices, how to allocate stock to production orders and how to check stock.

Learn how to maintain safe working practices using risk assessments and Haz Obs to ensure potential hazards are mitigated and managed for a secure work environment.

Learn basic Lean Six Sigma principles to support an ongoing culture of continuous improvement, innovation, efficiency and excellence across all parts of the business.

Learning to read, understand and use mechanical assembly, piping schematic and electrical wiring in manufacturing activities.

Learn and understand how to build instrumentation control panels; preparing cable harnesses, working with small gauge tubing using nylon, PTFE and Stainless Steel; using hand tools for mechanical fitting and for electrical assemblies.

This list is not exhaustive and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required as part of your apprenticeship journey.

Manager - Engineering Manager (FGDS)

Size of team/environment - Working in a multi-function team of engineers and technicians, you are supported by several functions including project management, project engineering, documentation, manufacturing and customer management. Our offices are split across ground and first floor with our manufacturing facilities on the ground floor, great lighting, air conditioning, and a fundamental focus on safety and product quality.

• GCSE Grade 5 or higher in English, Science and Mathematics

• Taking part in academic after school clubs including mathematics, science, or engineering.
• Completion of Duke of Edinburgh Awards
• Taking part in practical after school clubs such as Greenpower electric car builds, etc.
