About the Role

We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Funding Accountant to join our finance team in Blyth. This is a key role within the business, supporting the management of a diverse portfolio of grant-funded projects while ensuring strong financial control and compliance with funding regulations.

Location: Blyth/Flexible

Salary: Up to £37,000 per annum

Fixed Term: 24 Months

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you'll take ownership of the financial oversight of grant-funded projects, ensuring that all activity adheres strictly to funding guidelines. You'll be responsible for preparing and submitting grant claims, carefully analysing supporting evidence such as labour costs, invoices, expenses, and bank statements.

You'll work alongside project managers to ensure that milestones, outputs, and KPIs are met, while also supporting budget forecasting and quarterly reforecasting activities. Your ability to interrogate financial data will be key in maintaining accurate records and identifying any risks or discrepancies early.

A key part of the role will involve working with external auditors and funding bodies, responding to queries and ensuring audits run smoothly and efficiently. You'll also reconcile project finances within the accounting system, prepare revenue journals, and support cash flow forecasting to ensure funding is received promptly.

Alongside this, you'll contribute to the continuous improvement of funding processes as the organisation grows, helping to strengthen controls and ways of working.

About You

We're looking for someone who is analytical, organised, and confident working with stakeholders across the business.

Essential:

  • 3-5 years' experience in an accounting or finance role
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interrogate and interpret data
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with core accounting principles (accruals, prepayments, P&L, balance sheet)

Desirable:

  • Experience working with grant-funded projects
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition
  • Exposure to audit processes
  • Experience with SAGE or similar accounting systems
Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a meaningful role within a growing organisation, working on impactful funded projects and developing your expertise in a specialised area of finance. You'll be part of a collaborative and supportive team, with the opportunity to build strong relationships across the business and with external partners.
