Summary
The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist with filling and checking of prescription medications. The technician enters, counts, pours, and labels prescriptions for patients.
Responsibilities- Assists the pharmacists in retrieval, processing, and distribution of medication for patient use including unit dose, oral liquid doses, and solid oral dosage forms.
- Abides by all state and federal laws and regulations and accreditation standards to allow for the safe practice of pharmacy.
- Completes non-sterile compounding according to USP Standards.
- Alerts the pharmacist of any drug allergy, drug interactions or insurance issues.
- Provides courteous and timely customer service.
- Restocks prescription supplies including vials, bottles, and labels. Rotates stock and ensures outdated medications are removed from inventory.
- Maintains adequate medication inventory levels for patient care including removing outdated and recalled medications from inventory.
- Packages, records, and mails prescriptions to patients.
- Demonstrates the ability to document in the electronic medical record as appropriate.
- Maintains professional working relationships with members of pharmacy staff, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.
- Trains new employees and acts as a positive role model.
- Participates in maintaining compliance with Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, URAC, CMS, and FDA regulations and accreditations.
- Other duties as required.
- Prior experience as an outpatient or inpatient pharmacy technician is preferred.
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. - Registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Ohio Pharmacy Technician" or "Pharmacy Technician Trainee" required. Certified or Registered Ohio Pharmacy Technician status must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Years of relevant experience: 1 year is preferred.
- Years of experience supervising:
None.
- Possesses a valid stated driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability as determined by the ACH insurance carrier's requirements.
- An annual physical is required to be completed with the Akron Children’s Hospital Employee Health Department.
