Certified Surgical Technologist; CST

Summary:

Certified surgical technologists are responsible for preparing the operating room, including but not limited to the sterile field, setting up surgical equipment, supplies, etc. During surgery, they assist the surgeon with instrumentation, supplies, specimens, and maintain the sterile surgical field to prevent foreign retained objects (Association of Surgical Technologists, 2022).

• Scrub on all major and minor surgical procedures as assigned.
• Participate in patient assessments while planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
• Perform circulating duties under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care and safety to all patients.
• Maintain operating room suite supplies, assist with continuing education, precept, and orient all staff.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psych/social, educational, and safety needs of patients served regardless of age.
• Participate in various hospital activities as appropriate and directed by the Manager.
• Other duties as required.

• Experience in pediatric surgery is preferred.
• Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required; graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.
• Certified Surgical Technician (CST) and Basic Life Support (BLS) are required.
• Years of relevant experience: 0 to 2 years is preferred.
