Medical Assistant – Gastroenterology (Gastro)

Southwoods Health is currently hiring a Medical Assistant for our Gastroenterology (Gastro) office in Boardman. The Medical Assistant will work with their team and partner with the physician and/or other health care professionals to evaluate and provide direction to comprehensive, quality patient care. This role involves performing a wide range of skilled administrative and clinical duties.
Essential Duties- Create a welcoming, friendly, and professional environment for patients and visitors through exceptional customer service.
- Room patients in a timely manner utilizing two patient identifiers.
- Obtain and record vital signs, major complaint, medications, and allergies in the patient chart.
- Collect various specimens by following proper specimen collection, storing, and recording protocols.
- Prepare lab specimens in a timely manner for transport to the hospital lab by maintaining positive specimen identification throughout processing.
- Report and record patient critical lab values, adverse reactions, and pertinent information promptly to the physician and team members.
- Able to schedule appointments, answer phones, file documents, maintain medical records, and perform other administrative duties as assigned.
- Recognize patients’ rights and responsibilities and support them in performance of job duties.
- Ensure all processes at the responsible physician practice maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program and obtained a diploma; OR maintains certification renewals from one of the following associations throughout the course of employment:
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification through the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through the National Health career Association (NHA)
- Current BLS Certification through the AHA (American Heart Association).
Hours:
Full-time
Shifts:
Monday–Friday, variable shifts include 6:30 am–3:00 pm and 7:00 am–3:30 pm.
