Summary Of Primary Function/General Purpose Of PositionThe Registered Nurse (RN) performs patient care within a multidisciplinary team, using the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate care. The RN provides culturally competent care, manages time effectively, participates in quality improvement initiatives, collaborates with other professionals, and supports the ministry’s mission of physical and psychological support to patients and families.
Essential Job Functions- In collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, establish patient goals and strategies for discharge or continuing care.
- Perform and document complete patient assessments; initiate and maintain current nursing care plans for all assigned patients.
- Identify patient learning needs and provide individualized and comprehensive teaching.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with state practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies.
- Serve as point of contact for patients’ care coordination across hospital departments.
- Advocate for patient safety through ongoing quality improvement and participate in patient advocacy with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams.

Licensing & Certification- Current RN license in the state of employment or covered by a compact (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must be obtained prior to direct patient care. ACLS acceptable in lieu of BLS)
- Medical‑Surgical Nursing Certification RN‑BC (preferred)
- CCRN – Critical Care Registered Nurse (preferred)
- PCCN – Progressive Care Certified Nurse (preferred)
- CMSRN – Certified Medical‑Surgical Registered Nurse (preferred)
- NIH Stroke Certification (preferred)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)
Experience- One year of RN experience (required)
- Six months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred)
- Assign patient care according to nursing scope of practice.
- Facilitate learning and provide education to staff and patients.
- Provide evidence‑based patient care in accordance with standards of practice.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clinical and psychosocial needs.
- Develop, implement, and prioritize care plans efficiently.
- Apply the nursing process in patient care delivery.
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and revise plans as needed.
- Assist patients and families in coping with illness.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for coordinated care.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Integrate cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
- Seek assistance and acquire information when needed.
- Engage in educational programs and professional development.
