Maikel Martinez:Dream Worlds Exhibition
Maikel Martinez:
Dream Worlds is now on view through March 1 at Rosenbaum Contemporary's Boca Raton, Fla. gallery (150 Yamato Road). The exhibition features new paintings by popular Cuban artist Maikel Martinez.
Martinez’s works, at first glance, appear to be photographs or photorealistic paintings, but upon closer inspection, they are landscapes of places that do not actually exist. These images blend memories from his past, dreams, and internal dialogue to create reinvented landscapes. As he paints, Martinez transfers his emotions onto the canvas, achieving a sense of calm reflected in his minimalistic "dream worlds."
“The images that appear on the canvas represent a kind of magical dictation from my unconscious,” Martinez explains. “Some images are transformed during the creative process, while others remain true to the original dream.”
Born in Pinar del Río, Cuba, Martinez received the Landscape Award at the 2000 Salon Nacional, sponsored by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Royal Bank of Canada and the Museo Provincial de Historia in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
The exhibition can be viewed during Rosenbaum Contemporary’s regular hours:
