Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for a motivated Geotechnical Technician II to join our expanding Florida team! This position may be based in our Fort Myers, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, or Boca Raton offices.

In this role, you'll gain hands‑on experience while receiving ongoing training as you perform field testing for soils, asphalt, concrete, and masonry with minimal supervision. You'll support multiple phases of construction projects and geotechnical exploration programs, delivering Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspection services that are essential to project success.

From residential developments to retail, commercial, and industrial projects, your work will directly contribute to the quality, safety, and advancement of both public and private infrastructure throughout southeastern Florida, helping build the communities where people live, work, and thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Complete daily reports and testing documents completely and timely.
  • Transport, handle and maintain equipment and supplies responsibly and effectively.
  • Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details.
  • Assist with asphalt or concrete coring.
  • Become proficient in soil and rock classification systems.
  • Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently with supervision.
  • Comply with internal and client Health & Safety and testing policies if applicable.
  • Ability to work weekend, evening, and overtime work based on project needs; overnight travel may occasionally be required with this position.
  • Construction Material Testing
  • Test concrete for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and fabricate concrete cylinders.
  • Test engineered fill using field density methods.
  • Perform soil moisture‑density tests and oversized aggregate corrections.
  • Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details.
  • Technical observation of test borings, test pits and perform field permeability tests.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or AA/AS degree.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred:
    Nuclear gauge certification.
  • Preferred: ACI Grade I certification.
  • Geotechnical Engineering: OSHA 10 preferred and OSHA 40 if applicable. Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Basic math skills, strong oral and written communication skills (English).
  • Ability to read drawings, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans.
  • Ability to work outside as noted, walk on uneven ground, and carry up to 75-pound equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Drug testing may be required.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
