Private Equity Tax Operations Manager – Portfolio Companies

EY is a leader in serving the global financial services marketplace and the only professional services firm with a separate business unit dedicated to the financial services industry – the Financial Services Organization (FSO). Our focused model and bold ambition have put us at the center of the events that continue to reshape and redefine our industry, working side by side with a range of clients from our most venerable institutions to dynamic new entrants across Banking and Capital Markets, Wealth and Asset Management and Insurance, and Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction.

Our purpose is to help build a financial services industry in which financial institutions are trusted and flourish, and the global economy is healthy, growing and secure. If you have a passion for rallying together to solve complex challenges, then come join our dynamic FSO team!

Role Overview

As private equity investments in portfolio companies close, our clients quickly transition from the deal to implementing operations plans to drive value, of which tax is a key component. Our clients also look to us to identify tax planning strategies and to develop and implement tax operations plans that create value for them. In your role as a Private Equity Tax Operations Manager, you will be immersed in the evolving tax environment alongside our global private equity professionals to develop and oversee the implementation of post‑transaction tax operating plans, prepare income tax filings, prepare and audit income tax provisions, consult on planning opportunities, and coach and develop your engagement teams while working on globally active business entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all tax compliance and consulting projects for active business entities across a wide range of business sectors.
  • Work through all tax reporting implications of the transaction, including tracking purchase accounting, working with debt transactions, and modeling of cash taxes.
  • Support client engagements by coordinating day‑to‑day interactions with clients, reviewing staff work product, driving delivery of services to meet deadlines, developing internal team members, and managing engagement economics.
  • Continuously build technical competence by keeping up to date on trends, developments, and technical authorities and applying them to complex situations.
  • Identify and resolve tax technical issues and share insights to improve efficiency.
  • Partner with other team members to identify new opportunities for clients across multiple service lines.
Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Providing income tax advice and guidance tailored to operating corporations or partnerships in various business sectors.
  • Learning and keeping up to date with ongoing trends and changes to legislation that affect planning activities.
  • Managing high‑performing teams and sharing experience and knowledge of leading practices.
  • Building relationships at all levels both internally and externally, promoting a culture of collaboration.
  • Preparing practical recommendations to some of our clients’ most complex tax issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a graduate degree in Tax or Law and approximately five years of related work experience.
  • CPA certification or licensed attorney status.
  • Background in US federal and state income tax compliance and accounting across multiple industries and entity structures (corporate and/or partnership).
  • Experience managing budgets and projects.
  • Ability to prioritize when working on multiple projects, and confidence to engage and integrate directly into clients’ teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven record in a professional services environment.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
