Where You Will Work

The Bureau of Field Operations is responsible for the survey and certification process of health care facilities across the State of Florida. These surveys ensure that all state licensed, and federally certified health care facilities meet the established state and/or federal requirements and patients and residents receive safe, quality health care. Field Operations staff also ensure the safety of residents in health care facilities when emergencies such as natural disasters occur.

Responsibilities
  • Provide life safety inspection expertise for the licensure and certification of health care facilities.
  • Perform on-site surveys, document findings and prepare reports.
  • Provide independent specialized work on all aspects of fire safety, fire prevention and other areas of life safety.
  • Understand and enforce national, state, and local fire safety NFPA codes and laws.
  • Conduct surveys of other types of licensed providers, as assigned by management.
  • Use computer equipment and software programs, such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, and smart phone technology.
  • Be available to work before and after normal work hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Complete all Center for Medicare Services (CMS) Quality, Safety & Education Portal (QSEP) training for Life Safety within six (6) months of hire.
  • Work during the weekend or on holidays as required.
  • Respond to emergencies or disasters, including work in other counties or staffing locations to assist other State Agencies.
  • Assist in response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man‑made or natural.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Fire Safety Inspector I Certification pursuant to Chapter 633.261, F.S. and Chapter 69A-39, F.A.C.
  • Two (2) years of professional or paraprofessional experience in fire prevention, fire protection systems installations, or other construction inspection related experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Required to complete Basic Life Safety training within six (6) months of hire.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements

Fire Safety Inspector I Certificate of Compliance in accordance with Chapter 633.261, F.S. and Chapter 69A-39, F.A.C.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principals of administration and management.
  • Knowledge of state licensure and federal certification requirements.
  • Skills in oral communication, attentive listening, interview procedures, writing, team dynamics, and documentation review.
  • Ability to plan and organize to ensure timely completion of survey responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to climb ladders to inspect smoke/fire walls and roof‑mounted equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods while performing surveys.
  • Knowledge of fire safety prevention methods and equipment.
  • Ability to conduct fire inspections for safety and prevention.
  • Knowledge of construction standard rating for health care facilities.
