Job Summary
The Manager, Accounting oversees the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and adherence to internal policies. This role leads a team of accountants, partners cross‑functionally with operations, and plays a key role in supporting strategic business objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close Management- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to deliver timely and accurate financial statements.
- Review balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements for accuracy and GAAP compliance.
- Prepare and present financial reporting packages with variance analysis and performance insights.
- Ensure accurate consolidation of multi‑entity transactions.
- Oversee journal entries, accruals, allocations, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain balance sheet integrity through regular review of reserves, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and intercompany activity.
- Establish and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Partner with operations to support annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and property‑level financial planning.
- Analyze variances and provide actionable insights to drive operational decision‑making.
- Support profitability analysis, cost controls, labor analysis, and hospitality‑specific performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and federal/state/local regulations.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, including schedules, documentation, and responses.
- Support sales & use tax and property tax compliance.
- Identify risks and control gaps; recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff, including workload planning and performance management.
- Set clear expectations, deadlines, and accountability standards.
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performance culture focused on accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training as the organization grows.
- Evaluate and enhance accounting processes for efficiency and scalability.
- Lead or support system upgrades, automation initiatives, and new property onboarding.
- Develop and maintain SOPs for consistency and knowledge retention.
- Partner with Operations, Payroll, HR, and IT to streamline workflows and improve data integrity.
- Serve as a key liaison to operations leadership on accounting treatment and financial implications.
- Lead lender communications and coordinate monthly financial distributions.
- Support ownership with property‑level accounting questions, cash needs, and audit requirements.
- Contribute to special projects including acquisitions, new openings, and system implementations.
- Assist the Director of Accounting with departmental planning and strategic initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting systems such as Yardi Voyager 7S, Real Page, Oracle Net Suite.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
