We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated
Orthodontic Specialist to provide exceptional care within our established NHSprimary care orthodontic service. Youll be part of a supportive environment that values clinical excellence, teamwork, and a genuine commitment to patientwellbeing.
What Youll Be Doing
Leading the clinical team, providing expert guidance and supporting high standards ofcare.
Develop and support the role of a new Orthodontic Therapist, contributing to serviceinnovation and enhanced patient care
Providing high-quality specialist orthodontic assessments, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment planning for a wide range of orthodontic cases
Deliveringa range of orthodontic solutions including fixed appliances, aesthetic options,and clear aligner therapy (e.g., Invisalign)
Working collaboratively with dentists, therapists, and support staff to ensure seamlesspatient journeys
Maintainingaccurate clinical records and upholding the highest standards of clinical governance
Communicatingclearly with patients and their families to explain treatment options and progress
Working closely with referring dentists and local providers to maintain strong clinical pathways and professional relationships
Contributing to the positive, patient-centred culture of the practice

Job responsibilitiesResponsible for providing specialist-level orthodontic assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for children and young people referred into the NHS Primary Care (PDS) orthodontic service, ensuring high-quality patient care across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Key accountabilities:
1. Specialistclinical assessment and treatment planning
Triage all incoming orthodontic referrals,assessing eligibility, prioritising appropriately and ensuring patients are directed to the correct care pathway in line with PDS referral criteria and national guidelines.
Provide comprehensive specialist orthodonticassessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients meeting the criteria for Level 3a care within the NHS PDS orthodontic service.
Determine suitability for orthodontic treatmentin primary care and initiate all case starts, ensuring high-quality,evidence-based clinical decision-making.
Produce clear, detailed written treatment plansand clinical records to support continuity of care by colleagues and futureappointments.
2. Delivery of specialist orthodontic care
Deliver orthodontic treatment for patientsreferred and deemed appropriate for management within primary care.
Ensure treatment is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with national guidelines,commissioning requirements and Smile Togetherclinical standards
Referpatients appropriately to secondary care or other orthodontic providers wherecomplex needs exceed the scope of the PDS service.
3. Clinical leadership, support and supervision
Provide expert clinical advice, guidance andsecond opinions to orthodontic colleagues, DWSI clinicians, therapists and general dentists.
Support, mentor and supervise the Orthodontic Therapist (once appointed), ensuring effective delegation and adherence to GDCScope of Practice.
Offer developmental support and structured feedback to dentists, therapists and nurses wishing to develop skills inorthodontics.
