Healthcare Assistant – Garner Ward

Garner ward is a 16‑bedded inpatient acute dementia ward that provides a safe environment for the assessment and treatment of patients with a diagnosis of dementia. The staff team includes registered nurses, consultant psychiatrists, health care assistants, occupational therapists, activity coordinators and other professionals.
Patients admitted to Garner ward may be experiencing acute distress, significant deterioration in mental state, risk of self‑harm, self‑neglect or harm to others. We also support patients who may be admitted informally or detained under a section of the Mental Health Act.
Shifts will include day, night and twilight hours.
Main duties of the jobOn Garner ward we aim to provide a holistic approach to recovery and rehabilitation within a safe environment. We value positive risk‑taking to enable clients to move forward with their lives and promote recovery. We aim to provide person‑centred care in every aspect of our role and promote patient involvement in their care and treatment plans. We address concerns raised by the service user by supporting, empowering and encouraging them to take control of their lives.
Within the Garner ward team we all try to listen calmly, respectfully, and patiently to others and treat everyone in a kind, courteous manner. We strive to be open and honest and work together to promote positive change and recovery. While Garner Ward can be busy, we aim to meet the needs of each individual in a timely manner. The safety of staff and patients is our priority.

Person specification Qualifications- NVQ Level 3 qualification in care or equivalent experience
- Trained in Venepuncture or willingness to undertake relevant training
- Experience working with patients who have complex mental health needs
- Experience working with patients with complex care and dementia
- Knowledge of recovery and rehabilitation principles
