Job Overview

Medical Secretary – Adult Community Mental Health Team, Banham House, Bodmin Hospital. Permanent Grade Band 3 (Job share, 15 hours per week – Thursday & Friday). Job  
-A. Salary: £25,760 – £27,476 per annum (pro‑rata). Closing date: 26/07/2026.

Main

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide efficient and effective medical secretary support to a consultant psychiatrist and the team.
  • Manage day‑to‑day workload independently, using initiative, informed judgement, and strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Prioritise competing demands, multitask and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ensure effective lines of communication between team members, patients and external parties.
Qualifications & Experience
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 3 Business Administration or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • RSA/OCR III Word‑Processing and RSA/OCR II Audio‑Typing or equivalent qualifications.
  • Computer literate with experience of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Medical Secretary Diploma or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • Previous NHS secretary experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and remain calm.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise and take initiative.
  • Problem‑solving ability.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Minute‑taking experience.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the Trust’s electronic information systems.
