Substitute Teacher - St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School
A substitute teacher is responsible for enabling each child to pursue his or her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his or her regular teacher. A substitute teacher is responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the regular teacher and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in the policies of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Employment Status: Temporary
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Reports to: Principal
Position Responsibilities
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students
- Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs
- Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
- Perform other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration
- Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct
- Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming
- Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
- Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization
- Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
- Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in substituting or teaching experience preferred
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver license
- Valid vehicle insurance
- Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
- Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
- Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of student
- General supervision of the class
- Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
- Must have good written and verbal skills;
- Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
