Head brewer/Brewmaster – Free Roam Brewing Company

Free Roam Brewing Company is a faith‑centered brewery in Boerne, TX that serves first responders, veterans, LEO, and school administration. The brewery seeks an experienced Head Brewer/Brewmaster to lead all brewing operations and inspire a team with a purpose beyond beer.

Position Summary

The Head Brewer is responsible for all brewing, cellar, packaging, and production operations, ensuring high standards and community‑centered values. This hands‑on leadership role blends technical expertise with creative recipe development, operational excellence, and a heart for service.

Key Responsibilities / Brewery Operations
  • Lead all craft brewing operations: manage the Craft Master stainless brewhouse and cellar equipment, oversee cleaning, sanitation, and preventive maintenance, and conduct wort production, yeast management, and fermentation monitoring.
  • Maintain cellar organization, product movement, and inventory control; develop, track, and cost recipes; spearhead flavor and recipe innovation.
  • Create, update, and enforce brewery SOPs and safety manuals, manage PPE inventory and ordering, and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Source, order, and manage raw materials; track spending and batch costing; manage equipment rentals, subscriptions, and maintenance schedules.
  • Build and maintain weekly brewing and packaging schedules, manage and train Assistant Brewer(s), and provide hands‑on skills training and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate TABC and TTB documentation; manage beer competition entries; keep beer menus updated across platforms.
  • Lead taproom staff education on beer styles and off‑flavor training; track beer inventory levels and forecast production needs; manage third‑party ordering (cider, NA cans, kombucha, etc.).
  • Track keg inventory, support keg sales operations, manage key accounts, and maintain memberships with the Texas Craft Brewers Guild and Brewers Association; register, staff, and execute beer festivals and community events.
Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of professional brewing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of brewing science, cellar operations, and fermentation management.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with TTB/TABC requirements.
  • Proven recipe development and creativity.
  • Ability to lift 55+ lbs and work in hot/cold environments.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
