Job Description

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Pool Lifeguard enforces pool rules and regulations during recreational swim periods and performs facility clean‑up and maintenance at the Boerne City pool. The role monitors swimming activities within the municipal swimming pool to ensure public safety, assists in the orderly operation of day‑to‑day activities, enforces pool rules and reports infractions to management, and maintains awareness of hazardous conditions.

The lifeguard takes corrective steps to maintain water quality, cleanliness, and safety of the pool; watches continuously for accidents within the pool complex and performs rescues, first aid, and lifesaving procedures to assist patrons in trouble.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and enforce all pool rules and regulations, reporting infractions to pool management.
  • Remain alert to any hazardous conditions that may develop and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Assist management in maintaining proper water quality, cleanliness, and safety of the pool, grounds, and bathhouses.
  • Continuously monitor for accidents in the pool or pool area and perform rescues, first aid, and lifesaving procedures.
  • Operate lifeguard stations and handle admissions at the entrance desk, including season pass orders and swim‑lesson fees.
  • Serve as essential emergency personnel when required.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance as an essential function of the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Any combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the duties. Previous lifeguard experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of water safety and pool hygiene.
  • Safety/

    Physical Requirements:

    Medium – tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, and/or using a force equal to lifting 50 lbs.
  • Certifications & Licenses

    Required:

    Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent, or completion of training upon hire and prior to the opening of the City pool. Current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificates required.
