Salary Range: $19.63 Hourly/DOE (Seasonal May 23 - August 2, 2026)

Job Title: Head Lifeguard

Department: Parks & Recreation

Location: City of Boerne, Texas

The Head Lifeguard is directly responsible to the Pool Manager for duties pertaining to the operation, maintenance and safety of the city pool and supervision and direction of guard staff. Is responsible for performing skilled work in the enforcement of regulations and protection of human life at the public pool, responsible for the enforcement of pool regulations and the rescue of swimmers in distress.

Runs simple tests to ascertain the chlorine content of the water.

• Supervises the aquatic facility in the absence of the Pool Manager/Asst. Pool Manager
• Handles first aid problems
• Assists in the completion of all forms for the city, county, and state health departments
• Maintains rotation and staff breaks and assigns responsibility to the lifeguards when the lifeguards are not in the guard chair
• Maintains discipline at the aquatics facility and supervises all lifeguards, reports all disciplinary problems to the Pool Manager
• Assists in the preparation of staff schedule; directs staff with in-service training and assists in staff evaluations
• Maintains the chemical and filtration equipment, as well as the aquatics facility surroundings, as directed
• Makes decisions regarding refusal of patrons with health problems, intoxications, “controlled substances”, and bathing attire according to the Aquatic Facility Policy, or the ejection of patrons for disciplinary problems in the absence of the Pool Manager
• Informs the Pool Manager when supplies are needed, or equipment needs repair or replacement
• Directs the cleanup of the aquatic facility, when needed during operational hours and upon closing
• Maintain positive Public Relations at the City Pool
• Checks all gates and doors at the closing of the pool
• Enforces the aquatic center rules as listed in the staff manual, Facility Policies and Procedures Manual
• Serves as essential emergency personnel when required
• Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Education:
  
  High school graduation, or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Previous lifeguard experience preferred.
• Knowledge of:
  Water safety, pool hygiene

  Physical Requirements:
  
  Medium - Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, and or using a force equal to lifting 50 lbs
• Certifications & Licenses
  
  Required:
  
  Minimum of one (1) season of lifeguarding experience. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification or the equivalent thereof and/or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.
